Kick Off Your Shoes: The Power of Grounding

We talk a lot about things that need charging.

Your phone is recharged when it’s plugged into an electrical outlet.

You feel recharged when you go outside and put your bare feet on the ground.

How is it that both are taking in a charge but one’s in a wall and the other’s in the ground?

Maybe it’s because your bare feet are like plugs, and the electric sockets are in the earth and the natural world – patches of dirt and grass, rivers, streams, rocks, oceans, fields.

In fact, “earthing” or “grounding” to the earth lets an unlimited supply of nature’s electrons take flight inside of you.

Let’s take a Squint.

Why Do We Need Electrons?

Our body requires them! The interior of every cell has a “net negative charge” we must maintain for optimal cellular function. Putting the body in a place to receive electrons leads to many health benefits such as reduced pain, reduction of inflammation, improved sleep and improved immune function.

The way that we charge our internal battery is through assimilating electrons around us.  Electrons flow from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. And since humans are smaller than the surface of the Earth, we get the benefit of the electrons flowing in our direction. It’s kind of like getting a high-five from the earth, but using your feet.  Grounding to the earth connects us to the natural DC electric current available.  Consider it a huge supply of free electrons.

We are designed to accept electrons from the Earth through both our hands and feet (like a Sphinx).  Nature even added sweat glands to our hands and feet, so we can better conduct energy when we connect with the Earth while hugging a tree or grounding.  That’s human design at its finest!

How Do Protons Fit Into All of This?

We’re not sure you asked this question, but we’ll share some proton information anyway.  After all, we’re here to Squint, to take a closer look at all things quantum health related.  Positively-charged protons are in the nucleus of the atom, while the electrons orbit around. We need a balance, but net-net we run best with a negatively-charged balance of electrons over protons.  Inflammation can be built with protons (positive charge); with the lack of electrons (negative charge), or the combination of both. Grounding is one of the best things you can do to get rid of the bad protons and move your energy balance toward a more anti-inflammatory, negatively-charged direction.

It’s like soaking up Advil from the ground…but much better for you!

Research is showing that you can actually see the post-grounding electron boost at the cellular level. Our blood cells look different after grounding.  When cells pick up a charge (electrons from the earth), it helps blood cells avoid stacking up on each other. When cells pick up a charge, our blood is less clumpy and works better for us.

Plug in to Nature

Research shows significant effects from grounding on pain and inflammation after just 30 minutes. You may feel some health benefits (such as improved mood and energy) within one session of grounding, but consistent practice is ideal.

Grounding shouldn’t be seen as a short-term fix but part of a long-term, daily practice of the Squintessentials that drive our best health.  Remember, your eyes and skin connect you to the photoelectric power of the sun and your feet (and hands) connect you to the Earth’s magnetic source of electrons.

The Squintessential thing to do then is to connect your feet to the Earth’s magnetic source of electrons while your eyes/skin connects to the photoelectric power of the sun. Your feet tap into a free source of electrons, and the sun is the battery charger for those electrons.
